The Access-Arize Belt was invented and developed following a terrible accident on a para-transit vehicle when a passenger using a wheelchair tipped off a bus lift falling 4 feet to the ground while still attached to his mobility device. We needed to come up with something that could help to prevent this from happening again, and that would not require any modification of the lift. We have been very fortunate to have a fleet of 120 buses at our disposal to test and improve the belt using feedback from our drivers. We then turned our attention to other areas where people are being hurt or injured. This led us to invent the belt to protect the inboard platform of the lift and prevent people from tipping backwards into the bus. It also enables drivers to have more control over their passengers on the lift.

At Access-Arize we believe strongly that no passenger should leave a bus in a worse emotional or physical condition than when they got on the bus. When we heard that 70% of passengers that are injured on para-transit style buses were not in a vehicle that was involved in an accident, this got us thinking...what is going wrong?
